Bio

Milvia was born in Milano, Italy and immigrated to Canada at the age of six. Bio PictureHer family lived in Toronto, moved to New York and finally settled in Montreal. During that time Milvia developed an understanding of both French and Italian. In 1981, Milvia moved to Edmonton and then in 1985 to Medicine Hat where she and her family currently resides.

After moving to Edmonton she completed her education, began working at RBC, then continued her banking career with Scotiabank. Starting as a clerk, she worked her way up to Supervisor, Foreign Exchange Clerk, Efficiency Auditor and Credit Assistant. Milvia completed her career in banking as a Commercial Credit Manager with CIBC then decided to take on the challenge of full time mom. In 2001, Milvia obtained her real estate license and worked as an agent until she took the position of Office Manager and Financial Director of the family business with her husband Brian.

Milvia has always had a strong sense of civic duty, chairing several local parent councils and volunteering her time within the school system including an influential role in the creation of the Notre Dame parent council. She has considerable experience in the formation and implementation of policy and bylaws for Albertan organizations. Milvia has served as Treasurer, Vice President & President of the Canadian Cancer Society in Medicine Hat, past Director of International Service for the Medicine Hat Rotary Club. In 2007, Milvia joined the Business Advocacy Committee (BAC) as a chamber member. She was elected to the Chamber Board as a Director in 2008 and became a member of the Finance Committee in addition to her continued duties as a member of the BAC. Then, in 2009, Milvia became the second chair of the Chamber of Commerce. As of September 1st, 2010 Milvia is the Chair for the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce in which role she is responsible for chairing sub-committees  such as the Executive, Finance, Nominations, Governance, and Business AdvocacyCommittees. In September of 2011 Milvia was re-appointed as Chair for a second term. Milvia also Chair’s the Medicine Hat Safe Community Association and has been re-appointed by the Chief of Police for another term as Chair.

Her involvement in politics began at age 24 when she became treasurer of the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party constituency association in Medicine Hat. More recently Milvia helped in the successful election of Mayor Norm Boucher where she acted as a consultant and fundraiser. She also worked in that capacity for several local MLA’s.

Milvia values “Family and Community first, working with local and provincial leadersin government and business to expand society in a positive direction”. Encompassed in her belief system is society’s responsibility to assist those in need while providing resources to empower the individual to become a productive member of society.
